Dr. Herb is the Director of Instrumental Music and Assistant Professor of Music Education at Culver-Stockton College. Among the courses he teaches are the Wind Ensemble, Saxophone Studio, Secondary Methods, Conducting, Instrumental Arranging, Instrumental Literature and Aural Skills. Dr. Herb is also an active performer in the area, performing regularly with the Mississippi Valley Saxophone Quartet, the Illinois Missouri Swing Machine, and the Keokuk Big River Jazz Band. His other notable performances include the Quincy Symphony and the Sunday Music Series. Dr. Herb is also in demand as a clinician/judge in the area.

Dr. Herb has held his current position since 2004. Prior to that time, Dr. Herb was a high school band director for 10 years. He spent 7 years in Sacramento, California, where he directed three concert bands, two jazz bands and the string orchestra. Each of these groups grew in numbers and in quality, achieving the only Superior ratings the instrumental program had ever received. He was also an active performer in the Sacramento area, performing with many groups including the California Wind Orchestra, and the Consumnes River Jazz Band. Dr. Herb also taught 6-12 Band in Hillsboro, Oregon, where he doubled the number of students in his classes and garnered superior ratings and multiple awards.
